RAYON Sport stayed on course of lifting a record ninth Peace Cup title after trouncing bitter rivals SC Kiyovu 2-0 at Nyamirambo’s regional stadium.

Second half strikes from skipper Albert Nyumbayire (73) and Aphrodise Hategikimana (79) separated the sides and boosted the Blues’ confidence ahead of this year’s Kagame Cup.

Throughout the game, Rayon looked more comfortable on the ball and could have taken an early lead in the first half but Jerome Sina hit the cross bar from the penalty spot after a foul on Yusuf Ndayishimiye.

Theoneste Muhayimana wasted another opportunity at the stroke of half time but mid way through the second half, Nyumbayire fired in a long range shot to give his side a well deserved lead.

Six minutes later, the Blues doubled their lead after a defense mix-up in the Kiyovu back line allowed Hategekimana to tap in from close range.

At Kicukiro, Electrogaz set up a semi-final clash with APR after edging last year’s finalists Mukura on penalties (4-3) following a 1-all draw in normal time.

At Mumena, APR stormed the last four after a 2-0 victory over AS Kigali. The goals were scored by Emmanuel Sebanani and the in-form Vincent Nyirenda.

Rayon will now play the winner between holders Atraco and Etincelles in the other semi-final.
