You have at least once heard that sharp rap flowing through your radio. She is Pacifique Ado aka Paccy, one of the most famed artists in the land to date.

At only 19, Paccy raided Rwanda’s music scene in 2009 with her ‘Ese Nzapfa’ single, competing with the big names instantly. The Sunday Mags’ EMMA PRINCE met the lady rapper, excerpts below;

SundayMag; Tell us about Paccy.

Paccy; Am so cool, so social and so down to earth. I am confident with myself and I live my life the easy way.

SM; You have risen to fame so fast more than most artists who came before you, what’s the magic behind your success?

Paccy; I think am just fortunate because am neither the smartest nor the most talented. I just compose my lines and leave the rest to God.

SM; Your song ‘Ese Nzapfa’ talks about the nasty side of you. Are you really that harsh?

Paccy; Sometimes you don’t sing only about yourself in a song. I wanted to hit at some groups that are nasty and inspire them as their example.

SM; They say that rappers do drugs, carry guns and target the opposite of good. Is that a fact and do you node in?

Paccy; (Chuckles) I don’t take weed, not even liquor.  Rappers are just misunderstood. Rock stars take more drugs but it is never mentioned. Being a rapper should not be linked to drug addiction, please.

SM; Tell me about you music story.

Paccy; I started singing way back in primary and in church choirs. American hip hop queens, Foxy Brown and EVE pushed me to the world of hip hop. I met my producer, Lick Lick last year and the games began.
SM; So those queens are your role models.

Paccy; Not really. My role model is H.E the President of Rwanda, as in real life. I fancy Eminem and Dr Dre, in music.

SM; We don’t have any love songs from you, do you believe in love?

Paccy; Yeah! Love sometimes happens, but I prefer singing about ‘the street’ to inspire the desperate. It’s not like am a pessimist though.

SM; Do you have anyone in your life?

Paccy; I am still single.

SM; And searching?

Paccy; No, not searching. I think am comfortable and still have some time to think about that.

SM; Do you have anything for your fans this season?

Paccy; We have many more songs in studio and we are thinking of completing an album soon.

SM; What do you wish to tell those who look up to you as their inspiration, especially young girls?

Paccy; They should never be discouraged by the thought that a musician is immoral; take courage and try touching that height you feel so far away.  They should also put books ahead of anything.

SM; What’s your last word to SundayMag readers all over the globe?

Paccy; I thank them for their support. I will never disappoint my fans at any one moment and I love them all.

Paccy has been nominated for 2010 ‘Best new comer’ and ‘Best Hip hop artist’ categories in the 2010 Salux awards. The SundayMag team wishes her the best.
