Eighty students from different schools around the country all under the age of 17 years are undergoing a training clinic in volleyball.

The two week course organized by the Ministry of Education for the best volleyball players started on December 12 and is expected to wind up on Thursday, December 19 in Nyanza district in the Southern Province.

Forty primary school pupils and the same number of secondary school students were selected during the national talent detection exercise held in the Southern Province town of Musanze last month.

 "They will have their Christmas in the camp, but we shall hopefully organise something for them to make their day,” said Gertrude Kubwimana, the Executive Secretary of the volleyball governing body, FRVB.

Of the 80 players, 40 are male while the other half are female and between, the volleyball federation plans to form two national U-17 teams.

Youth, Culture and Sports ministry, (Mijespoc) Secretary General, Jean Pierre Karabaranga, recommended the training camp and promised more support next year on an official visit last week on Wednesday.

The camp is supported by the Education Ministry and their Mijespoc counterparts
"The Secretary General of Mijespoc recommended it and promised to gather players from schools which don’t play volleyball in next year’s camp.

"He said that he will urge all federations to do the same next year,” Kubwimana disclosed.

Five-hundred- and sixty primary school pupils and secondary school students from all parts of the country participated in the Musanze talent detection exercise.
