NYAGATARE-The chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Professor Chrysologue Karangwa, has called on Nyagatare district residents to massively participate in the upcoming presidential elections slated for August. 

Prof. Karangwa made the remarks on Thursday, while meeting Nyagatare local leaders from different leadership levels.

In a half-hour lecture on civic education, Prof. Karangwa told local leaders that participating in elections is a citizen’s responsibility. 

He urged attendees to mobilize residents in their respective areas to turn up in big numbers for elections. 

‘It is going to be fair and free elections and residents mass participation is crucial,’ Karangwa told those who attended the meeting that was held at  Green land main auditorium. 

He also reminded participants to respect election laws. 

‘There are rules and regulations that govern NEC…you need to conform to them first in order to participate in the elections,’ he said. 

The NEC boss urged for collaboration between all administrative levels and residents to make the polls a success.

The Eastern Province governor, Dr. Ephraim Kabaija called for tight security in the district during elections. 
‘Elections are part and parcel of the country’s development,’ he said.
