ONE of Rwanda’s short distance athletes Islam Mulinda faces an even longer period away from the track due to a recurring knee injury.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury mid last year forcing him to pull out of the Lebanon Francophone Games, Rendezvous National and a host of other regional and international competitions.
The athlete, who has been receiving treatment at Kigali Central Hospital (CHK), is also expected to miss the upcoming Africa Senior Championship in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will run from July 28 to August 1.
Mulinda’s personal best is 10.57 seconds in 100m and 21.70 seconds in 200m.
Rwanda falls to Nigeria in Davis Cup

RWANDA got off to the wrong start in the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group III championship after losing 0-3 to Nigeria on Wednesday in Marrakech, Morocco.
In the singles category, Justin Ntaheranwa lost to Abdul-Mumin Babalola 2-6 2-6 while Olivier Nkunda also suffered a straight sets defeat 3-6 1-6 against Sunday Emmanuel.
In doubles, the West African nation still proved too strong as Dieudonne Habiyambere and Olivier Nkunda went down 1-6 2-6 against Candy Idoko and Lwala Sheru.
Today, Rwanda wind up their Group B campaign with a tie against Algeria.
