Editor,
As a motorist, I know that the fuel prices have increased a bit since last week.
However despite the increases, I know that the only reason the prices haven’t increased even more is because the government has graciously subsidized the fuel pump prices.
This increase of only 2% is modest, as officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry told The New Times.
While the price of Rwf940 seem exorbitant, I want to tell my fellow citizens that the price, when compared to those in our region is among the lowest. In fact, with all the issues surrounding the oil export industry like Somali pirates and the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, I would have expected the price to top Rwf 1000.
That is why I appreciate the government’s subsidies, in the absence of which I would have parked my vehicle long ago and walk to work everyday.
