NYAMAGABE - Clément Duhaime, the visiting Administrator of the organization of French-speaking countries ( l’Organisation Internationale de la francophonie, OIF), yesterday inaugurated a fully stocked library at the Itorero Centre in the district.

The library, built with the help from OIF, has been stocked with over 160,000 copies of books and an audio-visual room fitted with modern equipment to benefit students, teachers and the neighbouring community.

The OIF official, who was on a two-day visit to the country, hailed government’s efforts in promoting the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
 "Rwanda has made it clear that the use of ICT accelerates development,” he remarked.

Duhaime enumerated the various cultural and educational engagements by the OIF of which Rwanda has been a member for over 40 years.

He called upon the youths in the district to put the centre to good use by reading and carrying out research.

Speaking at the event, Culture and Sports Minister, Joseph Habineza, challenged youths in the district to develop a culture of not only reading, but also writing.

He urged the community of Nyamagabe to own the centre and to use the opportunities that the centre provides more profitably.

District Mayor Alphonse Munyentwari said that the Itorero centre has promoted social cohesion among the youths through sports and other educational activities.
