Police construct terraces in Kanyinya

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) together with residents of Kanyinya sector in Nyarugenge district have created terraces to fight soil erosion in the area. The construction of the terraces took place on Nyamweru Hill and it was organized as part of the ongoing Environmental Week by RNP.

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) together with residents of Kanyinya sector in Nyarugenge district have created terraces to fight soil erosion in the area.

The construction of the terraces took place on Nyamweru Hill and it was organized as part of the ongoing Environmental Week by RNP.

Addressing residents shortly after the exercise, the District Police Commander of Nyarugenge district, Supt Danny Ndayambaje, said that environmental protection was paramount in the force’s duties.

Ndayambaje thanked the residents for turning up in large numbers and encouraged them to collaborate with the police in various activities aimed at protecting the environment in the district.

The exercise that included constructing new terraces and renovating existing ones attracted police officials, Kanyinya sector employees and the local residents from the sector.

The Executive Secretary of Kanyinya sector, Felly Karenzi, welcomed the assistance from the police saying that residents have been facing a problems of running water from the hill which not only destroyed their crops, but also the nearby Kigali-Musanze highway.
