RUHANGO/MUHANGA - The Rwanda National Police (RNP) marked the beginning of the Police Environmental Protection Week on Tuesday with the planting of over 10,000 trees in Ruhango district.

The trees were planted in Kamonyi village, Kirengeri cell, in Byimana sector in collaboration with soldiers of the Rwanda Defence Forces, (RDF), residents and local leaders.

They constructed terraces on 10 hectares of land in an effort to stop soil erosion which has become a major concern for Byimana residents during the rainy season.
The Ruhango district Police commander, Supt Fred Simugaya said, "such activities of protecting the environment should become a culture.”

Meanwhile, in Muhanga district, the event was held in Kibangu sector where local leaders and residents cleared boundaries in Nyakabanda swamp.
