NYAGATARE – About 34,686 people who missed the first phase of the National Identity card photography in Nyagatare district will have their images taken during the second phase during the course of early May.

Charles Murenzi, an official from the National ID Project said during a district security meeting held last week that Nyagatare follows Kigali City districts of Gasabo and Nyarugenge with many people who missed the first phase of photography.

‘We were later surprised that statistics indicated that such a big number of adult residents in Nyagatare had missed the exercise,’ he said.

Sector leaders attributed the problem to regular movements of people across the borders.

‘One of the main reasons why residents missed ID photography is because of constant movements in this district. Residents keep on moving to Uganda and back,’ Stanley Muganwa, the Karama sector executive secretary said.

The district Mayor, Fred Atuhe Sabitti, who chaired the meeting called on sector leaders to carry out mass mobilization of residents to turn up for the exercise.

‘This time you need to carry out serious mobilization of residents…and even communicate with school heads to mobilize students for the exercise,’ he said.
