APR stayed on course of lifting a record tenth Primus league title after last evening’s 1-0 win over beleaguered Amagaju at Nyamirambo’s regional stadium.
Malawi International Victor Nyirenda scored the lone goal of the day to ensure Erik Paske’s guns widened their lead at the top to five points. The army side has now amassed 45 points from 18 matches and with four games to go, it is less likely that APR will let go of the title.
Even without two of their star defenders Didier Kapet and Tchimanga Mutamba who missed the tie through suspension, APR were still rock solid at the back as they made life difficult for Amagaju who are now certain of being relegated to the second division.
The Southern Province side crumbled to their 11th defeat of the season and now need to win their remaining games against Rayon Sport and Marine to survive the drop.
On top of their league ambitions, APR were using the game to assess their form ahead of the Kagame Cup where the side has been drawn in Pool A alongside African champions TP Mazembe, Vital’O of Burundi and Telkom of Djibouti.
The military side returns to action this Saturday as the lucrative MTN Peace Cup enters the quarterfinals.
