RUBAVU - He was away on leave allegedly attending to his sick mother. It would have been a day to celebrate Labour’s Day. But the Gisenyi Hospital boss Sam Ruvuma, was sacked as workers celebrated their day on May 1, over alleged financial mismanagement.

Also sacked was the administrator, Jean d’Arc Uwibambe.
The Minister of Health, Dr Richard Sezibera ordered the sacking of the duo at a meeting with local leaders in Rubavu District at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

The leaders who attended the meeting said the duo was sacked to pave way for investigations into allegations of financial mismanagement.

"Now the situation seems calm following the new appointments. The administrator was sacked and replaced by a person formerly working at Ruhengeri Hospital,” Jacqueline Bakunduseruye, the Rubavu vice Mayor in charge Social Affairs, told The New Times.

The sacked officials were also accused of stirring divisions amongst hospital staff, sources said.
