Ark Church Denmark, a Rwandan church in Copenhagen, Denmark, was invited last Friday to pray for Rwanda and Africa, during Denmark’s famous religious national holiday – Store Bededag, or "Great Prayer Day.”

According to a statement from members of Ark church Denmark, "Churches Integration Ministries invited Christian churches of different denominations to be part of this Prayer Day.” 

"George William Kalisa, a member of Ark Church Denmark (a Rwandan church) was invited to pray for Rwanda specifically and Africa in general. The Prayer service was held in Helligaandskirken, Niels Hemmingsens Gade 5, 1152 Copenhagen,” reads part of the statement.

The prayer for the world’s segment put special focus on the forthcoming elections in Rwanda and the Philippines in which Ambassador Elizabeth Buensuceso of the Philippines prayed for her country and Asia, while Kalisa prayed for Rwanda and Africa.

"The prayer of Rwanda was to thank God for the second chance He has given to Rwandans after the flow of rivers of blood in the end of 20th century and the 21st century being a century of a new beginning,” reads the statement.

"The prayer was towards our leaders, our economy – the sprit of forgiveness that is going on in hearts of Rwandans, the sprit of revival and renewal, and prayer for the Rwanda National Electoral Commission (NEC), for the preparations of presidential elections to take place in 3 months time.”

The service which prayed for the entire world was conducted in five languages – Danish, Chinese, Spanish, French and English.

Held every fourth Friday after Easter, Denmark’s "Great Prayer Day” is a collection of minor Christian holidays consolidated into one day. It was started in 1686 by the Lutheran Church, the official Church in Denmark, with the aim of praying for the country to avoid war, crisis and epidemics.

The Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Frank Jensen, the Bishop of Copenhagen, Steen Skovsgaard, diplomats and Members of Parliament attended.
