A group of seven Swiss women parliamentarians are expected to visit Rwanda and meet with several government officials including Rwandan women lawmakers.

According to a statement from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Kigali Office, the Swiss women parliamentarians will pay a six-day visit to Rwanda, Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo.

The team is expected to arrive in Kigali on Thursday and stay up to Friday.

"The Swiss women parliamentarians will visit Kibuye Hospital, which receives support from the public health programme funded by the SDC,” reads the statement.

They will also visit various associations and institutions supported by SDC and involved in the fight of violence against women in the Great Lakes region.

It is expected that the delegation will meet and hold discussions with their counterparts in Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

According to the statement, their discussions will focus on the issue of women’s rights and the violence subjected to them in the Great Lakes region.

"The discussions will aim at gaining an in depth knowledge about the issue and to provide, where appropriate, assistance to the implementation or adaptation of existing legislation through a project called "Marrainage” (mentoring).”
