RULINDO/GICUMBI - The ministries of Public Service and Labor and that of Trade and Industry will award Rulindo and Gicumbi districts for their exemplary performance in various socio-economic projects.

Speaking to The New Times, the Labour inspector of Rulindo District, Evelyn Nyirahakizimana said that Rulindo District scooped the top position for technology innovation and livestock farming.

"The first position in technology innovation was awarded to Florien Habonimana, the Director of Kibuli Secondary School, Base Sector for his innovative technology, where he uses a mobile phone as a device to switch on and off home made electrical cooking stove”, said Nyirahakizimana.

Nyirahahizimana, further said another resident of Rusiga Sector Jean Marie Vianey Ngiruwonsanga also scooped the first position in livestock farming countrywide.

"Ngiruwonsanga rears 7800 chicken and 8 cows on a small plot of land, where the chicken are reared from a storied house made of local wood and further uses cow dung to generate bio gas for the family’s domestic use”, added Nyirahakizimana.

Meanwhile, Gicumbi District vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, Ildephonse Butera on Monday revealed to The New Times the District’s countrywide exemplary performance in eradicating soil erosion and promoting Umurenge SACCO.

"A countrywide evaluation carried out by Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), which is under the Ministry of Trade and Industry awarded Gicumbi District the second position in eradicating soil erosion and the first position in promoting Umurenge SACCO”, said Butera.

Butera further said the District missed the first position in eradication of soil erosion because many water drainage trenches had been filled up by mud, resulting from the ongoing rain season.

"As for Umurenge SACCO our District is in the lead with all 21 sectors having put up Umurenge SACCO financial cooperatives”, added Butera.

Both Rulindo and Gicumbi district officials say the prizes for their exemplary performance in various socio-economic fields have not yet been released by the respective ministries.

"We are optimistic the prizes will come out soon”, said Rulindo District Public Relations Officer Charles Nsengiyumva.
