GICUMBI - In Gicumbi, Northern Province, Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) chairman, President Paul Kagame defeated the Minister of Education, Dr. Charles Muligande and the current president of the African Development Bank, Dr. Donald Kaberuka in the race for the RPF candidate for the forthcoming presidential elections.

Of the 417 votes cast, Kagame bagged 384 votes (92percent), Kaberuka 17 votes and Muligande 16.
During the elections held at APAPEB High School, Byumba, Paul Kagame’s name was presented by Claudien Karangwa who highlighted President Kagame’s achievements. 

"President Kagame has ushered in security in the entire country, united Rwandans to live and work harmoniously, eradicated poverty by initiating development projects and increased agricultural production by helping farmers”, Karangwa said.

Karangwa further said that voting Paul Kagame for another presidential term is preparing Rwandans for a better future. 

When the election returning officer, Gicumbi District vice Mayor for Economic Affairs,  Ildephonse Butera, announced the results, Kagame supporters shouted in jubilation. 

Butera, announced that Kagame and Kaberuka qualify for the party’s provincial presidential candidates’ elections slated May 8.

The District RPF Chairman, Bonane Nyangezi, who is also Mayor of Gicumbi District called on party members to encourage residents to join the party. 

"More RPF members should be mobilized at village level, to strengthen the party”, said Nyangezi.
