USA - Throughout the month of May, the Rwandan embassy in the United States of America will have its doors open to the public during a special event called Passport DC, an annual celebration of international culture presented by Cultural Tourism DC.

The Rwanda Embassy is among the 35 diplomatic missions accredited to the United States that opened doors to Passport D.C.

This year marks the third time this annual international culture event is held, and the first time to be hosted by Rwanda embassy in Washington DC.

According to a statement from the Embassy, "On Saturday 1,377 people from all walks of life visited the Embassy located on New Hampshire Avenue to see and hear what Rwanda as country has to offer.”

Participants who were welcomed by embassy officials were called upon to visit Rwanda and explore the country’s magnificent panorama and invest in its untapped resources especially tourism, agri-business and agro processing, infrastructure and energy, ICT, telecommunications, banking and finance, mining, construction and property development.

"The showcased products included Rwanda’s Bourbon Coffee, peace baskets from Gahaya Links, dancing cultural troupe, traditional dresses, Rwandan music and crafts,” the statement reads in part.

Flyers and brochures promoting Rwanda’s trade and investment opportunities were also distributed.

"Participants also had the opportunity to test the authentic flavor of Rwandan coffee prepared by Bourbon coffee based in Washington DC.”

The event which covers Washington DC based Embassies, international cultural center and local cultural organizations, is usually held in US capital, which hosts more than 175 foreign Embassies, chanceries, and diplomatic missions.

Passport DC has been expanded to the entire month of May where visitors and residents will celebrate and sample international culture and heritage in Washington, DC.
