KAMONYI - Genocide orphans grouped under Itetero Association in Gacurabwenge sector, Kamonyi district, last week received assorted items and over Rwf2million from Tigo, the latest telecommunications company to enter the Rwandan market.

The donation, that was geared towards improving the welfare of the beneficiaries, was handed over by Marcelo Aleman, the CEO, Tigo Rwanda,

"Tigo is committed to supporting orphans so that they can deal with problems of poverty and hunger which greatly contribute to trauma cases experienced by genocide survivors,” Aleman said.

"The support will continue and today’s event marks the beginning of a strong relationship of which we are proud.”
Aleman advised the orphans to have self confidence and dream big.

"Be convinced that there is no limit to what you can achieve, if you believe then you will be what you want to be, your imagination is the limitation.”    

The event was organised in collaboration with Uyisenga N’ Manzi, a local NGO that supports genocide orphans in Rwanda.

Part of the money will be used to boost small scale income generating projects run by Itetero Association in Kamonyi district.

These include livestock and beehive projects
Uyisenga n’Manzi representative, Chaste Uwihoreye, lauded the telecommunication company for its efforts of reaching out to rural orphans and willingness to build a long lasting bond with vulnerable children. 

The orphan’s representative, Janviere Iragena, said: "The support is a sign that genocide orphans have new parents and friends who care.”
