Editor,
I’ve just learnt that the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) is shooting a documentary that will portray Gishwati forest’s rehabilitation. This documentary is slated to be screened on World Environment Day on the fifth of June.
I am an avid environmentalist, and the plight of Gishwati forest broke my heart. Now its great to hear that this essential forest resource is being resurrected from the dead, Lazarus-like.
I am sure that some of the floods that ravaged parts close to Gishwati suffered this fate because of the loss of the tree cover that Gishwati forest availed.
I want to thank REMA for being on the forefront of the environmental struggle. Without advocacy and educational campaign, I’m sure that Rwanda wouldn’t be as ‘Green’ as it is presently. I hope greater things will come in the future.
