THE National Police Force has begun sensitizing students in primary and secondary schools throughout the country to be part of the fight against crime, especially drug abuse.

The fact that the habit has been found in some schools, calls for stern action before it gets out of hand.

Drug abuse can lead to dropping out of school, and is the beginning of a criminal life, and ultimately, failure and misery. Some bad habits picked up in school, if not checked, forever define one’s future.

The success of this fight will largely depend on cooperation from students, who can help their colleagues kick the habit. Peer advice and influence can have a positive role if directed to the right cause.

It is also important to involve teachers and administrators in this campaign, and they should be encouraged to always be on the lookout for drug use among the children.

Parents must be part of this campaign since many students engage in acts of indiscipline during holidays, when they have ample spare time.

If Parents took the time to find out what their children are up to, and not leave them to their own devises, it would be the first step in early detection of possible drug abuse.
