NYAGATARE – The Rector of Umutara Polytechnic University, Prof. Phillip Brearly on Thursday advised students to work hard to contribute to the university’s mission.

‘Umutara Polytechnic is like a three-legged chair or tool; the administration, academic staff and students…when one leg (students) breaks, the other two parts will strongly be affected.

We need your hard work and cooperation to make our three legged-based institution to be stronger,’ he said.
He was speaking at welcome party for over 700 fresh students.

He urged the students to take advantage of the available opportunities at the university to succeed in their career.

‘Umutara Polytechnic is an institution that has gained accolades in the East African region. We are also building partnerships with Cambridge University in United Kingdom to increase on skills provision,’ he said.

The Vice rector in charge of academics, Dr. Eugene Ndabaga welcomed students and advised them to use the knowledge they acquire at the University wisely.

‘The knowledge you will acquire here will be useful to you if you are people who cherish values…,’ he said.

At the same function, officials from the neighbouring Nyagatare Nursing School counseled students on the fight against HIV/Aids and the government’s male circumcision campaign.
