RWANDA’S professional golfers Jean Baptist Hakizimana  and Emmanuel Ruterana have expressed interest in playing in next month’s KCB Arusha Open.

Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, Ruterana said that Rwf7.4m in prize money was very enticing and that the pair is already lobbying for funding to make the trip to Arusha’s Gymkhana Golf course.

While Ruterana has been without a sponsor for the last 20 months, Hakizimana is back to square one after seeing out his sponsorship contract with MTN Rwanda.

"It is never easy in this sport when you don’t have a reliable sponsor but we are keeping our fingers crossed and hope to get sponsorship in time because we need to acclimatize to the course.”

"I last played on it as an amateur two years ago so it is important that we get time to get the feel of the greens,” the former BCR sponsored golfer added.

The four-day event is also expected to draw golfers from Kenya, Uganda and hosts Tanzania.

After this event, the pack will descend on Kigali for the KCB Rwanda Open. The four-day event will tee-off at Kigali Golf Course on June 2.
