APR wrapped up their Africa Club Championship campaign in style after thrashing El Nahda of Sudan 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-22). The mauling lasted just over an hour at the state of the art Sfax complex hall in Tunisia.

It was their fifth win of the tournament and meant that the side finished 13th in the 22-nation competition which climaxed Thursday night.

Al Ahly of Egypt clinched their ninth title after dislodging arch-rivals Zamalek in the final. With the sides level after the first two sets (25-20, 21-25), Al Ahly tightened their screws to claim the third and fourth sets (25-16, 25-16) to eventually seal a 3-1 set victory.

It is their fourth title this year after the Egyptian League, Egyptian Cup and Arab Club Championship. Tunisia’s Sfax also defeated Bourj Bouarrirj of Algeria 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-22) to take bronze.

Kenya’s Prisons used the skillful combinations by the net to penetrate Chlef (ALG) block and achieve a significant victory 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20) in 99 minutes to finish 5th.

Etoile du Sahel finished 7th after a straight sets victory over Ahly Tripoli of Libya while Cameroon’s Port Douala and Ahly Beni Ghazi of Libya rounded off the top ten slots.

Kenya’s GSU finished 11th, FAP 12th while Gabon’s Manga Sport pulled off a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23) victory over Muzinga of Burundi to finish 15th and 16th respectively.

Al Ahly will now represent Africa at December’s World Club Championships in Doha, Qatar.
