An expert on cancer has advised Rwandans to undergo frequent medical check-ups in order to control the disease.
Cancer is a disease characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells.

Dr David Mwesigye of King Faisal Hospital (KFH) gave the advice at the close of this week’s two-day medical conference, organised by the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Rwanda (NUR) in Huye, Southern Province.

He said: "Cancer is dangerous if not detected earlier. The problem is that people go to hospitals at the later stage of the disease when it is hard to treat.”

"Many patients do consult at the latest stage of cancer; they try to first seek traditional healing. When symptoms of late cancer are beyond their control, that’s when the patients start to seek medical care at the hospital.”

He encouraged people to always seek medical care in case they see or feel something abnormal on and inside their bodies.
