KAYONZA/RWAMAGANA – The Rwanda National Police has started to construct 50 houses for needy residents in the Village Umurenge Programme sectors of Rwamagana and Kayonza districts.  

The construction was launched by the provincial Governor, Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, on Wednesday in the villages of Kitazigurwa within Rwamagana district and Nyagatovu within Kayonza district. 

Addressing the participants shortly before the launch of the construction programme, the governor said that the police are doing a commendable job as partners in development. 

"There is no doubt that we have a professional police force, capable of protecting the people in all spheres of life. That they are constructing houses for the people, is a vivid manifestation of what I am saying,” Kabaija said. 

Chief Supt. Gilbert Gumira, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) noted that the building of the houses for the needy is part of their efforts to boost Police-public partnership. 
"We are a people’s force…this is one way of showing it,” he said. 

Jean Claude Mpangaza, one of the beneficiaries of the 50 houses, said that he was overwhelmed by the police’s concern for them.

Additional support for the project came from police trainees at the Gishari Police Training School and hundreds of army men and women from neighboring districts.

Other top officials that were present included Stanley Nsabimana the Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Colonel Eugene Nkubito of the Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF).
