RUHANGO – The Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Rwanda National Police on Tuesday donated over 53,000 mosquito nets to children less than 5 years of age in Ruhango district.
The donation is part of the Police activities marking its 10thanniversary. Part of the activities marking the celebrations included HIV/Aids voluntary counselling and sensitisation on family planning.
The National Police will distribute at least 2 million mosquito nets countrywide during the Mother, Child Health week, according to Police Spokesman, Supt. Eric Kayiranga.
Dr. Valens Habimana, the Gitwe Hospital director, who also represented the health ministry, at the function called on residents to use the nets properly to prevent malaria infections.
Supt. Fred Simugaya, the Ruhango District Police commander, asked residents to avoid temptations of selling the nets off.
The Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs, Epimaque Mpayimana, also encouraged residents to embrace family planning strategies, hygiene and other health activities.
