The winner of Tusker Project Fame (TPF3), Alpha Rwirangira has confirmed reports that he rejected a one year recording deal with one of Africa’s most famous record labels, South Africa’s Gallo Records.

The offer was among other top prizes the highly-rated young artiste was offered after he beat a field of 12 contestants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda to emerge winner of the third season of East Africa’s premier music competition.

In an interview with The New Times, Alpha said he decided to reject the offer because its terms were complicated and not favouring him.

"The terms in the offer were complicated, that’s why I decided to reject it and concentrate on my career as I wait for other opportunities,” Alpha said. "After waiting for the offer in vain, I decided to look for the best studios in East Africa, where I could record my compositions.”

According to Alpha’s manager, Olivier Ndayisaba the offer was binding the singer, and it didn’t make any sense for him to wait for so long, but instead embark on his career single-handed.

"Alpha loves his fans and that’s why he accepted to carry the blame, as people thought he was dormant in the business—yet he was waiting for the offer, which he didn’t know would turn out to be complicated,” Ndayisaba said.

Alpha is the first TPF winner, who has turned down such a huge offer, while his predecessors (TPF 1 winner Valerie Kimani from Kenya, and TPF 2’s Esther Nabaasa Mugizi from Uganda) grabbed all the offers, but we are not sure whether they succeeded in their music career.

He is currently recording his songs in Uganda and Kenya to complete his first album, which he intends to title, "We Are One”.
