WITH no international engagements in the last three to four weeks, Rwanda remained 107th in the latest FIFA rankings released yesterday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Rwanda neither gained nor lost any point to their previous 269 to remain the second highest ranked team in the Cecafa region after Uganda, who also kept their 74th slot in the world and 15th on the continent.

Sellas Tetteh’s men have not played any competitive international match since March following Eritrea’s last minute withdrawal from the 2010 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, who stand in Rwanda’s way of reaching next year’s CHAN competition, are ranked 108th in the world and third in the region.

Egypt remain Africa’s highest ranked side moving up one place into 13th, World Cup-bound Cameroon also climb one spot into 19th.

Brazil replaced European champions Spain as the world’s highest ranked nation.
It is said that the changes are due to the devaluation of past results.

Some teams gained points due to the fact that the devaluation of poor results led to a greater weighting of successful matches.

There are likely to be big movements in May’s rankings as the World Cup finalists play friendly games in the build-up to June’s tournament in South Africa.
