The South Africa World Cup host city, Durban, has agreed to initiate a cargo flight directly to Kigali International Airport to facilitate in the transportation of Rwanda’s products which will be showcased during the month long football tournament to be held on the African continent for the first time ever, Jean d’Arc Gakuba, Kigali city vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs has said.

"With the help of Durban, a direct cargo plane connecting the two cities was initiated to help Rwandans transport their products whenever need arises,” Gakuba said. "This is great support from Durban, because the exhibitors will not run out of products throughout the month”.

She added that cultural products that include art and craft and dance, the backbone of the country’s tradition, are some of the products selected to be showcased in both Durban and Tshwane, another World Cup host city.

Others are agribusiness products such as coffee and tea and investment opportunities that include Kigali City Master Plan and ICT.

Rwanda is the only country which did not qualify for the World Cup but was invited to perform at the opening and closing ceremony.

Rwanda’s invitation follows a long standing relationship between Kigali and South Africa’s cities of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban where they have been visiting each other to learn how the cities can improve on the well being of their residents and the countries in general.
