Washington DC - The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning,John Rwangombwa, while in USA attending Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington DC, yesterday held a  meeting with Congresswoman Betty McCollum representing Minnesota’s Fourth District.

McCollum has worked to promote effective U.S. leadership in confronting the global AIDS pandemic while supporting investments that reduce extreme poverty and hunger while improving the status and health of women and children around the world.

In his remarks, Rwangombwa commended the exiting cordial bilateral relationship between Rwanda and USA Government, most especially in support of the overall Government of Rwanda development plans, such as the extensive support in health sector through USAID that has registered tremendous achievements in fighting diseases like malaria, HIV, Aids and other deadly diseases.

In Agriculture sector, the Finance Minister pointed out Rwanda’s extensive plan in elevation of poverty and hunger such as crop intensification programs, food storage facilities mostly on local level, fertilizer use and agro-processing.

The Congresswoman advocated for the use Crop diversification in Rwanda which is intended to give a wider choice in the production of a variety of crops in a given area so as to expand production related activities on various crops.

She praised the Government of Rwanda on doing very well in transparency, accountability as well as health sector, hence a role model to other African country.

The Congresswoman expressed her gratitude towards Rwanda’s quick achievements despite of recent emerging out of genocide. 

McCollum is a co-chair of Caucus for Congressional-World Bank Dialogue.
During his visit, the Minister was accompanied by Rwanda’s First Counselor in Rwanda Washington Embassy Mr. Michael Rukata and Mr. Ronald Nkusi, Coordinator financial resource mobilization unit in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
