NYAGATARE – The Nyagatare district vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs, Enock Byabashaija and Rebecca Karungi, officer in charge of Social Affairs were among the thousands of residents who turned up for provisional driving licence exams in Nyagatare on Monday.
The exams took place at Umutara Polytechnic University play ground.
According to police statistics, over 3,000 people sat for the exams in the area. Minutes prior to the exams kick- off hundreds of residents were still flocking ECOBANK and Rwanda Revenue Authority branches in Nyagatare to pay the licence exams fee.
‘They registered in big numbers. The statistics indicate that those who need licences is beyond 3,000 people,’ a traffic police officer said.
Many residents said the exam was relatively simple. Rehema Uwamahoro, one of the residents said that the examiners asked questions which they had learnt during their training.
‘I have been offered lessons in a driving school here in Nyagatare and I am happy that my revision time was not wasted. What we studied and revised were the same questions asked,” she said.
"I expect to secure a provisional driving licence and this should give way for me to secure my driving permit.’
62-year old Emmanuel Rurangwa, another resident also said he expected to pass the exam after several previous attempts.
