PETER Habyarimana’s campaign at the 2010 Aiba Youth World Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan came to an abrupt end when the boxer fell to Marriaga Campo Eduar Antonio of Colombia in the preliminary round.

Habyarimana, who was competing in the bantam weight category (54kg), fell after just one minute and 59 seconds.
Else where, Myanmar’s Kyaw Htet Kyaw progressed to the next round after victory on a split decision while Australia’s Brandon Ogilvie out-muscled Samoan Sinapapa Sanele 6-5.

Emmanuel Elder Rafael from the Netherlands Antilles suffered an unceremonious exit from the competition after an early knock out by Lithuania’s Tautvydas Statkevicius.

Rwanda’s other boxers at the event include Aziz Matusi (light fly) and Olivier Shingiro (fly weight).

While there was no African representatives at the 2007 World Youth Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, 19 countries from the continent are in contention this year.

Africa’s quest is led by Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Seychelles, Tunisia, Benin, Ethiopia, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, South Africa, Mauritius, Niger, Rwanda, Botswana, Cameroon, and Zambia.
