Return leg (May 8)

BARELY three days after losing their coach Suleiman Nyibizi, Muhanga showed that they have the mental strength to rise above what seemed like a crisis at the club after pulling off a crucial 1-0 away win over Kibuye in the first leg of the second division play-offs.

Defender Jean Claude Uwimana scored the lone goal to give his side the edge ahead of the return leg slated for May 8.
Nyibizi threw in the towel after going three months without pay. Former National University of Rwanda (UNR) coach Gervais Manirakiza is the acting coach at the Western Province side.

Kibuye now need to defeat Muhanga at the latter’s home turf to return to the top flight.

In the other playoff tie, Nyanza continued their unbeaten run after holding La Jeunesse to a goalless draw at Nyamirambo’s Regional stadium.

Only a win can see the Nyamirambo side return to the top flight when they play Nyanza away in two weeks time.
