Before the creation of the National Police, Rwanda was not as safe as it is today, where one can walk anywhere at any time of the day without fear of harassment.

This is because one is confident in the police’s ability to protect them. I say "bravo” to our officers. Nevertheless, nothing is ever quite perfect.

Last Saturday, while I was with the survivors of my family heading to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, I was surprised to find a male policeman checking women (both young and old) at the entrance without any electronic device but instead using his bare hands. It was unfortunate.

I asked myself, where were the female policewomen? I don’t think a man should be allowed to touch women like that.
