The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDA) has selected 9 local agro-based industries that will be eligible to acquire the ISO 22000 certificate. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDA) has selected 9 local agro-based industries that will be eligible to acquire the ISO 22000 certificate.
The ISO certificate is an international standard that defines the requirement of food management system covering all organizations that deal in food products.
Employees from the 9 industries were inducted into a two week training that ended last week organized by the Norwegian Agency for Development (NAD) to train them on how to document the food safety management systems that qualify them for the international certificate.
"ISO 22000 certificate is an international standard suitable for any business in the entire food chain, including inter-related organizations such as producers of equipment, packaging material, cleaning agents, additives and ingredients,” Charles Rutagengwa the National Project Coordinator of UNIDO said in an interview with Business Times.
Rutagengwa said that the industries in Rwanda which get the certificate will be able to export their produce, that consistently meet international customer requirements including quality, safety and legality.
