HUYE — The wife of a senior Pastor at the Zion Temple in Butare town was among the three people who were killed in the fatal Belvedere Lines road accident which occurred last Wednesday in Burundi.

Pastor Jean Desiree Ntawiniga’s wife, Anita Niyuhire Ntawiniga, a Burundian national was killed after the ill-fated Belvedere Lines bus from Kigali collided with another car at Bugarama near the Burundian capital Bujumbura.

Church members thronged the young couple’s home on Wednesday evening as news about the tragedy filtered in.
The recently wed couple moved to Butare late last year, according to some church members who talked to The New Times.

"They were a young couple starting to work in a new place, they had big plans for their family and the church they served,” said John Mulisa, from African Mission Alliance.

Four men and two women who survived the accident were on Friday airlifted by a Rwanda Air Force helicopter from Burundi to King Faisal Hospital in Kigali. They were reported to be in a critical condition.

The late Anita Niyuhire was laid to rest yesterday in her ancestral home, in Burundi.
