KCB injects $50,000 into 2010 Mt Gorilla Rally

FOR the second year running, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has injected $50,000(about Frw.28.6 million) into this year’s Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally scheduled for June 4-6.

FOR the second year running, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has injected $50,000(about Frw.28.6 million) into this year’s Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally scheduled for June 4-6.

Presenting the cheque to Rwanda Automobile Club president Yves Kagina, KCB Managing Director Maurice K. Toroitich said, "We are proud that we are the lead sponsor of the 2010 KCB Mount Gorilla Rally,”

"This is a great event and I call upon the Rwandan rally fraternity to come and enjoy the rally as well as products which will be offered by KCB.

"Last year’s event was solely based on the brand awareness of the company and we hope to take the rally to the people in this year’s edition as well as enhance a customer base,” Toroitich said.

Toroitich also recapped the bank’s commitment to support motorsport in the region, following successes in all events they have sponsored in the past including the prestigious KCB Kenya Safari Rally.

On the other hand, Kagina expressed appreciation to KCB for their support towards the event, adding that the sponsorship will make the rally a success story once again.

"We hope to once again organize a successful event which will attract many foreign drivers. I call upon other companies to come over and support the rally fraternity,” Kagina said.

According to Kagina, the money will go into the organisation of the event including purchasing the trophies for the winners.

This year’s KCB Mount Gorilla Rally which is the fourth round on the African Rally Championship will count as the third and final round of the East African Rally Challenge.

Just like last year, the East Africa Rally Challenge which started with the KCB Safari rally last month.

The second edition of the event will be the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally on April 30-May 1 in Kampala before winding up in Kigali with the KCB Rwanda Mt. Gorilla Rally.

Rwanda’s Davite Giancarlo is the defending champion after he emerged the winner in last year’s trio editions.
