RWANDA’S Fifa accredited referee Celestin Ntagungira a.k.a Abegga has resumed intensive training ahead of the final World Cup test for referees due in South Africa on May 8.

Abegga who was sidelined for six weeks with a thigh injury trained at Amahoro Stadium with the help of a polar transmitter to monitor his speed.

Ntagungira sustained the injury while undergoing medical tests in Zurich in March but remains confident he can get the nod to officiate at the world’s premier sporting event.

Ntagungira is among eight African assistant referees who have been tipped to officiate at the World Cup.

The others include Nasser Abdel Nadi (Egypt), Maamar Chabane (Algeria), Redouane Achik (Morocco), Manuel Candido (Angola), Enock Molefe (South Africa), Evariste Menkouande (Cameroon) and Bechir Hassani (Tunisia).

The centre referees include Malian Koman Coulibaly, Eddy Maillet of Seychelles, South African Jerome Damon and Algerian Mohamed Benouza.
