SELLAS Tetteh is confident Amavubi Stars are heading in the right direction as his first game as head coach ended satisfactorily with an emphatic 4-1 win over Primus league side AS Kigali yesterday.

Abouba Sibomana, Roger Tchouassi, Daddy Birori and Emmanuel Sebanani scored the goals to ensure a comfortable victory before next month’s crunch 2011 CHAN qualifier against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.

"With only a few days’ training, there hasn’t been enough time for us to gel as a team but I’m happy with the result. The team is progressing every other day,” the Ghanaian said.

"I am confident by the time we travel to Tanzania; the team will have made further progress.”

Louis Nshimiyimana scored AS Kigali’s consolation.

Amavubi depart for Dar es Salaam next Friday, a day before the first leg qualifier.

The return leg will be played on June 5, a week after this year’s Kagame Cup which kicks off May 15.

Taifa Stars started preparations yesterday at Dar es Salaam national stadium. Coach Marcio Maximo named a provisional 27-man team mid this week for the tricky tie and the Brazilian believes a good result in Tanzania will give them the edge ahead of the return leg.

En route the second and final qualifying round, Taifa Stars thrashed Somalia 6-0 while Rwanda got a bye after Eritrea’s last minute withdrawal.
The 2011 CHAN will be staged in Sudan.
