Canada’s Governor General, Michaëlle Jean, at a reception in her honor at the Canadian Embassy Residence in Kigali, commended Rwanda’s progress and achievements, comparing to her own native Haiti. 

"Haiti, in its 200 years of independence has not achieved what Rwanda has recorded in the last sixteen years,” she said.
