Executive Secretary’s body retrieved from Lake Kivu

KARONGI - The body of the former Executive Secretary of Bugina cell, Rutsiro district, Andre Nambajimana, has been recovered from Lake Kivu two weeks after the boat he was traveling in capsized due to a heavy storm.

Nambajimana, was among the passengers traveling to Nyamunini Island to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

He brings the total number of bodies recovered to 19. Three people are still missing.

Meanwhile Protais Munyeshaka, who was in charge of the boat, has since disappeared.

"We have devised mechanisms of tracking him down since he fled without recording a statement with us,” Police spokesperson Eric Kayiranga said.

Subsequent to the accident, police set up a team of experts to investigate the matter and a report is yet to be released.

Nambajimana is survived by a wife and two children.
