Davis Cup quartet named

AFTER one week of rigorous training at Cercle Sportif, the national Tennis Federation (RTF) yesterday named the four players to represent Rwanda at next month’s Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group III championship in Morocco.

The quartet includes Dieudonne Habiyambere, Olivier Nkunda, Melee Bizimana and Justin Ntaheranwa while Mathieu Uwizeyimana and Janvier Mugwaneza were dropped.

The team coached by Sylvain Rutikanga will depart on May 1, two days before the championship which runs from May 3-7 in Marrakech.

The team needs to finish among the top two in the play-offs to get promoted to Group II.

Besides Rwanda and hosts Morocco, other countries in contention include Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The countries will be divided into four pools.
