KAMONYI – MP Pierre Claver Rwaka, has appealed to residents of Kayenzi, Kamonyi district to volunteer more information on the whereabouts of bodies of genocide victims who were killed in Beyite forest in Kirwa village.

The legislator made the call during the end of the genocide commemoration activities in Kayenzi sector last weekend.
Only 67 bodies of genocide victims have been recovered and given a decent burial, out of over 300 residents who are believed to have been killed in Kirwa cell.

Survivors say a few residents survived the massacres in the area.Most of the victims were stoned to death while others were dumped in Nyabarongo river near Gakenke district.

"Be courageous and reveal the whereabouts of the remains, so as to relieve the hearts of survivors and create harmony in the community. There is no need of hiding this information any more because it will help to bring peace of the mind to everyone,” said the legislator.

The survivors however, showed willingness to work closely and reconcile with the genocide perpetrators.

The Executive Secretary of Kayenzi, Epimaque Munyakazi, rebuked residents for having participated in genocide and asked them to fight genocide ideology and work towards unity and reconciliation.

Hundreds of residents also paid tribute to genocide victims buried in Kayenzi sector.
