NYAGATARE – Floods have submerged several hectares of farm land in Rwimiyaga sector, Nyagatare district, greatly affecting livestock farmers who cannot access grazing land.

According to area residents, the cattle dam in the area also overflows due to heavy rains.

‘We no longer have enough grazing land. The biggest part of some farms is covered by the water.’

Frank Mukorana, the executive secretary of Rutunga cell, said that the torrential rains have led to over flows from Karangazi sector toward Bwera dam, before pouring into Akagera River.

‘This has been ongoing since January this year. We have been experiencing this problem but it’s beyond our capacity to bring it under control,’ he said.
