THE government of Rwanda has confirmed that Gisenyi stadium, one of the venues of next year’s U-17 Africa Youth Championship will be ready by November this year.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Culture, Jean Pierre Karabaranga told Times Sport over the weekend that plans are underway to renovate the stadium.

"We are looking into the issue of having the stadium renovated to meet Caf’s standards just like Nyamirambo stadium.”

"We intend to install an artificial turf and modern stands and seats in the stadium,” he added.

The 9th African Under-17 Championships will be held next January and Amahoro and Nyamirambo’s regional stadium are the other venues for the two-week continental championship.

In 2009, Ghana won the U-20 championship after beating Cameroon 2-0 in the final. Rwanda, who had been drawn in Group A along with Ghana, Cameroon and Mali failed to progress past the group stage.
