RWANDA’S Football Federation (Ferwafa) has confirmed Bokota Labama will serve a one-year ban for featuring in the Congolese domestic league.

The troubled striker, who is club-less after being axed by APR last month on grounds of indiscipline was found guilty of playing for Kisangani-based Teout Solida Maleketa in the Congolese domestic league a day after coming on as a second half substitute in APR’s shock 1-0 victory over TP Mazembe in the second round of the Orange Champions League.

Ferwafa’s regulatory commission recently heard the case. "After carrying out our investigations, we found out that the player had indeed breached one of the federation’s rules and regulations so he will serve a one-year ban with immediate effect,” the body’s Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa confirmed.

Bokota joined APR in 2008 after impressing at Rayon Sport and although he tried to live up to his reputation at the army-side, his off-field indiscipline overshadowed his performances.   At the time of his sacking, he had scored 10 goals, just three short of top scorer Roger Tchouassi of Police.

The 29-year-old striker could also be punished by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Bokota joined Rayon in September 2007 from DRC side Kabasha FC.

In a related development, Alphonse Solomon of Electrogaz and Police midfielder Fidele Bosanja have also been issued one-year bans for featuring in the Congolese league.
