The National Police Force, this week, kicked off events to mark the institution’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

Looking back ten years, the Force had only close to 3,500 officers. Today, the Rwanda National police force has grown to 10,000 officers, who are fully trained in a range of modern police techniques.

Notably, is the institution’s presence on the international scene, where there are police officers serving in peace keeping missions in five countries namely; Chad, Liberia, Sudan, Ivory coast and Haiti.

Law and order is one of the ingredients that has facilitated the rapid growth and development of Rwanda, the Police has been very instrumental in law enforcement.

And, through their investigations, the Government’s strict policy of zero tolerance on corruption is registering positive results.

In addition to the policing duties, the force is now involved in other community initiatives such as environmental protection, offering medical services to the Rwandan people, as well as building houses for the needy. 

In the run up to the June 6, D-day celebrations, the public should take time to understand the role of the police and pay attention to the various campaign messages being put out.

It is through close collaboration with the police force that the country will remain orderly, peaceful and prosperous.
