Governors of the frontier provinces of Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi, yesterday began a two-day meeting to evaluate the areas of cooperation.

The meeting that was attended by the Governors of the Eastern, Western provinces of Rwanda, North Kivu, and South Kivu of DRC was held under the auspices of the Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries (CEPGEL).

Addressing the meeting, the state minister for Local government, Christine Nyatanyi said that since their last meeting, great progress has been registered in terms of security, economy and partnerships.

"We have achieved a lot in terms of security, economic growth within this region, and what we are striving for is to allow free movement of personnel and goods as we foster sharing of security information to avoid any threats,” Nyatanyi said.

The Executive Secretary of CEPGEL, Gabriel Toyi, said that there is need to allow free movement of people across borders so as to enhance economic progress, culture while at the same time promoting peace and culture in the sub-region.
