KIGALI - Rwanda Revenue Authority together with the National Electoral Commission and the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), Friday held a memorial ceremony in remembrance of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The event was held at the RRA premises at Kimihurura.
"Remembering the Genocide is not only a duty of the government or survivors only, but an obligation of every Rwandan, whether at home or in the Diaspora,” Mary Baine the Commissioner General of RRA said.

She advised Rwandans not to pay lip service to the forgiveness and reconciliation process but rather be practical and constructive in the building of peace.

"Since 1994, Rwanda has achieved much growth every year that passes. This year, we must see to it that we enable traumatized Rwandans to heal both inwardly and outwardly. Since it’s tough to discern who is traumatized or not, people should seek counsel from each other without holding back, so that the healing process is put into practice,” Baine added.

"The consequences of trauma are immense because they can lead to family breakups or catching of terrible diseases like hypertension or diabetes. Therefore, every Rwandan has the duty of helping their neighbour through dialogue and attending village discussions that are aimed at healing trauma,” The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight Against Genocide (CNLG), Jean de Dieu Mucyo said .
