GATSIBO — The World Vision area development programme [ADP] has committed to install 48 water tanks for Genocide widows and orphans in Gatsibo for water harvesting.

The tanks, meant to improve access to water and improve sanitation, would also be donated to other vulnerable members in the area including families affected by Aids.

Francis Uwumukiza, the area development coordinator revealed this recently while inspecting 15 houses built for the group by world vision in Kabeza cell in Kabarore sector.Atleast 15 tanks have already been installed in different homes.

"We intend to start another cheaper method of collecting water using under ground water harvesting tanks that will help serve more vulnerable families,” Uwumukiza said.

Residents living in these sectors have always experienced water shortages.

Mukadisi, a widow who lives with five children expressed gratitude over the donation saying, "We used to travel miles looking for water and the journey always took us more than two hours. But now, we have clean water right in our compound 24 hours a day.”

The ADP project has contributed to different infrastructure in the area with much emphasis put on providing school facilities, building houses for orphans and setting up water wells.
